#31 – Pink Floyd Laser Show
So Gryphon and I finally got to go back to the laser shows at the Planetarium – Beatles and then Pink Floyd – and there’s really no better place to discuss drugs with your kid then at these. Mostly because they’re cheaper and you can turn them off, unlike a bad trip if you’re actually high. And you don’t even have to associate with the negative type who deals drugs now.
We also talked about politics now versus then – People being completely apathetic about the same issues – and how the ‘drug culture’ was different… Then it was about loving your fellow man, free love and free peace, but now it’s about money and violence, so doing drugs in the 60s was a completely different experience. At least that’s what I think since like she said in the presentation, the Dark Side of the Moon album is older than the people who come to the show. Older than me, but I still like it. Gryphon mostly likes emo rock – My Chemical Romance, Green Day, etc. Bands I like too and have exposed him to, but he’s been around the Beatles, and one of my favorite movies is Across The Universe.
And this isn’t racist, but he was talking about the state fair being ghetto, and we realized there wasn’t a diverse crowd at the shows. Which was just a little weird, since there were teenagers – Are there only white teenagers and aging stoners at other laser shows? Odd. Not that he and I are particularly diverse – both very white, freakish, anime fan types, but Gryphon was going to ask his best friend to come, and now I’m sorta glad he didn’t call back, because he might have felt out of place. We live in the inner city, so that wasn’t something I was used to. Guess I don’t feel at home without a diverse crowd even though I’m white.
