#25 – Birth Announcements
We were reading a Miss Manners article about Birth Announcements which did the unthinkable – asking guests for money and other even more atracities… i remember when birth announcements when they were created just to let people know that someone was having the wonderful gift of a child! Now it seems like kids are used to cash in… which doesn’t seem right. Ah, ye old ways of nostalgia!
They’re supposed to be very simple, sometimes elegant way to express feelings. They are not thing you sell to guests in exchange for the money they might post to your son’s or daugter’s college fund (which could be brought up easily in conversation – after all, we know how expensive colleges are) and I can’t wait until there’s an arrangment which both puts the child and happy couple at the forefront, and whatever gifts there are, to go through later, together.
