#51 – The internet was made for…

September 20th, 2009 | GhettoKitten

No, not that! You should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking that! But, really, it’s so much easier to find anything now online than it used to be, where you’d have to drive to a store or spend a long time on the phone in order to get information or shop. From insurance quotes to vehicles, you can find it online. I was able to get most of my son’s birthday presents online – well, all of them, except the vacation part. Even that, I got the hotel and the tickets and such online, so I don’t go out to stores much anymore. I did go to goodwill because they have the 99cent days, and I’m looking for excersize equipment, but as far as looking up the value of things, I do it online before shopping even if I’m going out to a place to get it. That way I know what’s a good deal and what isn’t, because there’s a huge amount of variety and selection now.

#39 – Reading the News Feed

August 31st, 2009 | GhettoKitten

Okay, can anyone tell me why twitter is so popular? No offense – I do have a twitter account, which is rarely used except for links to stuff for sale – but it’s micro blogging. If you can’t think of anything to say but one sentence, well, it probably doesn’t need to be broadcast to the world. It’s a decent business tool, I suppose, but how many people actually read the tweets? Maybe I should try an experiment and tweet to a link, then see how many hits it gets. I just find it odd that twitter is so widely used now, considering that most people don’t like the limits on phone texting… and this is texting on a global scale. There are… well, just a few yaoi companies I occasionally read the tweets from, because they run specials, but I don’t read my entire friends list. Guess it’s just one of those weird fads…

And speaking of the internet being cluttered as well as the TV, one would think you should probably organize your laptop better before needing to buy one with two screens. o_O Talk about losing portability…

#33 – Poser 7

August 22nd, 2009 | GhettoKitten

I tried to use Poser 7 out of the box, and that wasn’t really doable. So now I got the Poser 5 Handbook, and I’m going to try to learn it. I somehow thought it would be as easy as Manga Studio and other programs. Yeah, it’s not. >_>

I mean, it’s very useful for posing if you need reference of that, but not changing things. And Poser World has a bunch of nifty things to download that I didn’t know how to use – outfits, characters, accessories, textures. It’s a really good resource. If you can use the stuff. Sort of a big if… I’m going to learn it because I want to, but after looking at the things created in it and how it works, I doubt I could do what I really wanted to.

Well, wish me luck on that.

#24 – Be Very Paranoid – Government TAKING Computers on Cash for Clunkers Site

August 6th, 2009 | GhettoKitten

Do not – I repeat – do NOT actually go visit the site, just watch the video explaining why not to do it. The site is cars and it is a dot gov (I am not linking to it so that noone accidentally goes to it, but yet another sign our government is going more and more big brother every day. Jeez… freaking scary… noone ever reads those ‘agree’ things of pages and pages of terms.

This is a screencap of what you’re agreeing to – that you now have a government owned computer, and no privacy… clearly stated… I believe they are trying to take over all the auto dealers… more socialism. And most places have already taken advantage of this program, so well… Welcome back to 1984 Russia people. Wake up and CARE about what your government is doing.

#21 – WordPress Plugin On My Other Site

July 31st, 2009 | GhettoKitten

I posted the link to download a free plugin (fixed) that lets you password protect part of an entry without having to password protect it all. It’s really a major pain for a post to just show up as ‘protected’ without any excerpt or any other information showing, so let me know if it helps. Now I can start posting some content on that site which requires the password, but at least people know what they’re using a password to get, and it’s definitely more SEO-friendly.

And yes, I know the donate button is ugly – I’m going to replace it, but just don’t like using a standard one.

#19 – Why WordPress?

July 28th, 2009 | GhettoKitten

Some interesting questions from a fellow WordPress enthusiast:

Why do I use it? I have tried many other blogging platforms – the only other one I kept for a bit was Serendipity, but it was very limited in what it could do, and I prefer to have complete control over every aspect of my own site, as I own my own domains, and therefore, I love having that access clearly visible for me. I’ve been using it off and on for so long that I remember having to manually install it when now, I have a host who has it as a one-click install, which makes it incredibly easy and fast to just go in and begin modifications.

The sheer depth of customizable templates is enough to entice the novice user… but where it really gets fun is (more…)

#17 – Very Annoying Bug – XP TouchScreen

July 26th, 2009 | GhettoKitten

Okay, so it isn’t like I’m going to mail this laptop off considering it took months to install and configure all my programs, but I would really, seriously, love to know why, when it boots… This particular OS does not recognize ‘normal clicking’ (aka the left button) until I’ve right-clicked a few times. Then it goes back to normal… But at the beginning, it doesn’t recognize a normal click as ANYTHING. Since it only takes a few seconds to correct, it isn’t life altering or going to stop my ability to use my pc, but it is really annoying. Especially since I usually leave the computer on, and so the few times I do boot up, I’ve forgotten…

And like an idiot, spend 55 seconds clicking in confusion until I remember. And then I feel stupid, despite being very tech-savvy. And, like most people, or at least I assume so, I don’t enjoy feeling stupid.

Unless I’m at a convention. Because fun and stupidity is the RULE there, and you FAIL if you are sane and logical instead of a screaming, running, glomping, over-emoting fangirl (or fanboy, we don’t discriminate here).

My final hug count at the last convention was 431, by the way. And kids? Don’t do what I do and accept candy from strangers at conventions. They really do like to feed the Death Note groups, though, and I can’t refuse any form of Japanese candy… I so love that security was pissed they were throwing candy off the 3rd floor balcony for us to catch in our mouth and then gave up because they kept getting candy in their hair while telling us to stop. Please throw more candy from the balcony next year, that was fun. I wasn’t even sure what was gonna end up in my mouth… So yes, stupidity is apparently common even in the educated at these things. =D

#11 – Problems With WordPress Theme

July 16th, 2009 | GhettoKitten

I am using the sliding door theme on both my wordpress blogs, and cannot seem to make the images work. I am not sure what the issue is – I am using the same name, format, and size – it even asked me if I was sure if I wanted to replace the file with the new one… so I know it’s been uploaded correctly. Seti hasn’t had any problem with hers, and I would like to get the images up as soon as possible, so does anyone have any ideas? Commenting is open, just no spam, and it goes to moderation, so I will see it before it ever goes on the website, and it has to be approved before it will show up. I have downloaded the Photoshop template, so I’m going to try again, but this is frustrating.

I also just updated the WordPress install and the plugins, so perhaps that will help.
